I posted this is the health and beauty section but I thought I would try the infant section , maybe someone is or has gone thru this before.
Okay my 20mth old daughter has VERY thick curly hair , but the problem is her hair is dry. I tried using the johnson & johnson line for her hair and that makes it even worse. I do not want to mess her hair up by using adult products on it , and I even tried this new line especially for babies called Baby Love , it works at the time but by the end of the day her hair is dry again. Someone please help me , lol . I need a remedy to control her curly dry hair .

If she was a little older I wouldn't have a problem using adult products but she is only 20mths old and I don't want to mess her hair up. Alot of adult products are very harsh , me being 26 , my hair gets damaged from some adult products and I dont want that to happen to her.

Ok its too many of you saying to try adult conditioners , lol , so I will try that tomorrow and see how it works on her , hopefully this will help manage her hair. For the one who used africa's best , I know the oil you are talking about I used that on her before and it made her hair nice for a while then really dry and icky at the end of the day but i still use the oil and both of my kids skin , its really nice as an oil for the body :)

Adult shampoo and conditioner is just fine to use. The baby ones and kids ones are just made to help prevent stinging if it gets in the eyes. If you use these just make sure to cover her eyes so you don't get it in them when rinsing.

Ok so I don't know if you said anywhere if your daughter was african american or not but I'm going to give my advice as if she is. Since I'm mixed and my kids' father is black I go through this a lot. With my son who is 3 I do use adult conditioner just to detangle it, I comb his hair while the conditioner is in and it's wet before washing it out, however, I didnt do it when he was that young so I don't know if I would recommend trying that until later. What does work great is just a tiny little bit of that baby oil gel stuff used as leave in conditioner. It keeps his curls tight and moisturized so that even though he has big hair it looks neat rather than like a big mop, lol. When you try it keep in mind just a tiny bit though because otherwise it just gets greasy. Other thing to try would be a tiny bit of pink hair lotion. I've used that when I couldnt find the gel on my son since he was probably a year old or so. Works great as well and it hasn't caused any problems with him. Good luck and hope this helped. I have a daughter too but shes so little still that her hair is still straight. I fear the days that I have to deal with her hair since my son is a struggle but if we ever get really fed up we can just shave it.

My daughter had dry curly hair that would get so tangled and unmanagable. I used an adult product on her hair and it never once messed her hair up. She's now a 4 year old with very pretty and managable silky hair. Only harsh products that strip, dye and overheat the hair will mess it up. Products that simply condition it isn't going to hurt her.
Edit: the brand mommy2d gave is very good. That is the brand I use for my daughter

Baby oil, that's what my Aunt used on my cousin's hair. It looks great for a day but then looks really greasy afterwards and can be difficult to wash out.
You may have to break down and get some adult products, just look for all natural ones. There are some excellent frizz controllers and conditioners out there for curly hair. Remember that baby hair and adult hair are actually the same, it's all dead keratin, it's the scalp you need to be careful with so if you are worried, just get some of the brush in stuff so you don't get it on her scalp.
(is thankful my boy got my straight hair)

Get some baby conditioner! Johnson & Johnson makes some that's also detangler - I remember using it on my crazy curly hair when I was little.
Definitely do not use adult products on her because they contain sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate which is bad for babies (wish I could remember how - causes problems though!)
Also, you could try smearing some avocado on her hair. I did that to myself and it worked great. Yahoo search for "natural beauty remedies" and you'll find all kinds of neat stuff that's perfectly safe for her that you can get in the produce aisle.

For my daughter's hair, I use California Baby shampoo, and a very small amount of Nature's Gate Aloe Vera conditioner on the ends. Both are very gentle products and can be found in natural grocery stores, or online.

I use a product called Africa's Best on my kids...it's an oil for body, hair, and scalp...it keeps their hair nice and not dry or frizzy...my children also have very dry skin and I put this on after their bath instead of lotion...it has helped their hair and skin 1000%

She needs a product with conditioner in it. There are some children's products (I think Loreal make one). Once a week use an adult conditioner in her hair... leave it on for a few minutes before you rinse it out.

Check the Burt's Bees hair product line. They have a baby and adult hair products. Their line is mostly natural so you shouldn't have any reactions to it.

How often, and when, do you wash her hair? I don't know much about african american hair, but try washing it in the nighttime, before bed. Also you can try to only wash the hair everyother day, assuming you are doing it daily. Most people's hair doesn't need to be washed everyday, as long as it's not dirty or smelly.
