i called my doctor he said as long as i am not bleaching it out it would be ok...i did it and i'm fine. make sure you don't breathe all that crap in though, that's what can harm you and don't let it get on your skin. it burns and taints your skin a little. also it's not adviced to dye your hair unless you are past your 1st trimester... good luck

A chemical may not have any noticable effects on you, but could still cause birth defects. And by the way, there is some concern that the chemicals in hair dyes mentioned here may be carcinogenic. Also, just because something is "chemical free" doesn't mean it can't have detrimental effects. A lot of very poisonous substances are "natural", and these "natural" products typically have not undergone the same rigor of testing as many of the synthetic ones. I'm not preaching one way or the other. I dye my hair, but I'm still not sure that I want to do it while pregnant.
i say, be patient and wait till the baby comes out, then you can change the color of your hair as often as you may want to.

You can, but not in your first trimester. If you are going to do it I recomment doing it in your late 2nd trimester or sometime in the 3rd when all the major developments of baby have already occured.

Another option that to dye your full head is to just get some streaks. That is what I did and my doctor told me it was completely fine.

Also if you are going to dye your hair make sure when you make your appointment at a time when the salon is the least busy so there is less exposure to possibly harmful chemicals.

It's recommended to wait until after the first trimester , the best way is to go to a professional and have them use foils so it does not touch your scalp, but if you do it at home make sure you do it in a well ventilated area and do not rub it into your scalp.

If you use the organic dyes. The chemicals are generally not good for you, because a small amount does seep into your skin, and it's got an odor that you shouldn't breathe in.

Various studies have shown that hair colouring does no harm to the fetus. They suggest you do it in a well venalated (sp?) area though.

Its the odor that is the problem, so if you wear a mask (sounds funny but I did) then you are okay, and make sure you are in a well ventilated area.
