I just got an RX for Ambien 2 days ago and it my boyfriend says that I'm talking "out of my head" while I sleep. Also, when he tries to wake me, I won't wak up. He doesn't want me to take it when he works nights...any comments?

Do NOT, I Repeat, DO NOT drive or handle any dangerous equipment or knives if you have had less than 8 hours of sleep after taking Ambien. It is especially bad if you are taking certain antidepressants or gabapentin (Neurontin). Most of the side effects occur if these medicines are taken at same time as Ambien or alcohol (even a glass or two of wine). If you have been observed to sleepwalk, do not take this medicine, The extended release version, Ambien CR is supposed to have less of these side effects.

I had really bad amnesia with it. I literally couldn't remember anything after I took it. The next day, it was like I had dreamt it all. One time, I took a box cutter and cut myself and thought I had dreamt it the next day until I looked at my arm. Other than that and feeling foggy, it worked like a charm for me as far as sleep goes. The thing with Ambien is that you're supposed to take it literally 'as' you're going to bed. I was taking it half an hour or so before.

If you check the website for Ambien, you will find that walking, talking, eating, and attempting daily activities in your sleep without knowledge of it in the morning is a common side effect.
However, if it makes you or your family uncomfortable you should definitely call your physician and request a different medication.
***I used to sit on the stairs and think that the ferns on the plant stand were moving towards me and were going to consume me... and my mother kept seeing "duck people" in her shower and calling the kitchen table "grandma." - We've since switched medications. =o)

**Note: These side effects can occur even if you take the pills sitting in bed, under the sheets, etc. ***
