7 answers

x+y+z=6
x+y=z
x=z+1

Now substitute the third equation into the second to get y in terms of z:
(z+1) + y = z
y=-1

Now substitute into the first equation
(z+1) - 1 + z = 6
2z = 6
z=3

from x=z+1, we know x=3+1=4
so the three numbers are 4,3,and -1

1. x+y+z=6
2. z=x+y
3. x=z+1
Plug 2 into 1:
x+y+x+y=6 becomes 2x+2y=6, which reduces to x+y=3
Now rearrange 3 to give z = x-1 and plug it into 1
x+y+x-1=6
2x+y=7

Now solve those 2 new equations by subtracting them:
2x+y=7
- x+y=3
x=4
Now if x=4 then y=-1

call the numbers N1, N2, N3

the three equations are N1 + N2 + N3 = 6
and N3 = N1 + N2 and N1 = N3 + 1.

Now you have three equations for three unknowns. You can substitute and solve for them all.

For example combine the second and third to find N2, which equals -1.

let the nos be: x, y and z

x+y+z=6
x+y=z
x=z+1

put the third equation into the second:
(z+1)+y=z
y+1=0
y=-1

hence x+z=7 and x-z=1...now solve simultaneously
you should get z=3 and x=4

hope i helped
