you need a router to connect to the internet at home(DSL).
if you want to connect to the internet outside you home you should have a Wifi system in your laptop.

Hi,
Basically router is for connection 2 r more computer. If u have wireless router u can we connect a laptop to u'r desktops and it's range is limited and so will not be able to carry internet connection everywhere. Best option might be to get a wireless internet connection (either a PCMIA or USB based). which will be connected directly to your pc and can be carried anywhere. Hope u found what u'r looking for!.

GoodLuck,

A router is used to take one internet connection and split it between 2 or more computers, also some routers have wireless, same concept, except instead of wired connection its wirelss, typically almost unlimitied computers can be connected to one connection, although they would kill the band width LMAO

If the laptop has wireless card yes you will be able to take it wherever and connect to the internet as long as there is a wireless signal within range, and you can access it.Some are secured, and you will need the encryption key to log into it,some are not and you just have to be with in range of signal, like coffee shops, libraries, things like that.

Verizon sells a laptop wireless card and it is subscription based i think for liek $50 a month and you will have high speed internet no matter where you are.
