you fold it and then you iron it so its "flat and rectangular"

Fold it diagonally, with outside corners folded to middle of cloth, then outside edges folded again - so you have a strip of cloth about 3 inches wide to tie over forehead.
You will probably have to practice a little.
You can also fold it like this to use as a headband [ girls ].
When my son had long hair, wore these forehead bands all the time - especially if doing anything that required sweat!
