You have to take the test in your second trimester... Before you are 20 weeks!!

The first trimester screening is a regular blood test taken out of your arm.
If there are any irregularities, they may recommend further test such as amnio or chorionic villus sampling (CVS)

I'm not sure exactly what test you're talking about, but I just had my first trimester screening for chromosomal abnormalities. They took measurements of the nuchal translucency (by using the ultrasound), and they also took a blood test. They just took a finger prick for the blood test.

It's regular blood test. called the triple screen test, or maybe the quad test. depends on which one your doctor uses. They do it determine the chances of Downs and other chromosomal abnormalities.

well it depends on a test. I had a test that tested for the chance of down syndrom and something else... and it was taken out of my arm. I would suggest calling your doctor and asking about it, usually when they suggest a test they tell you how it is administered(done) it seems really odd that they didnt tell you.... Well anyway good luck!!!
