Here is my config setting. I have a cable modem connectted to a wireless router. I have a SBS 2003 connected to the wireless router. I have 1 pc hard wired to router and 3 wireless pc.s I also have one wireless pc that I don't want accessing the SBS.
I was able to set up the wireless connection, users, etc.
When I try to connect the cliet pc using the http:/server/connection I get the following error

"The list of users and computers cannot be found before continue ensure network.... Also if you have a router performing DHCP servies on your network. Verify the router is configured to use the coumpter running SBS. as the primary DNS server. ..."

I am at witts end figuring out IP addresses DHCP etc.

Anyone have any good web sites on how to set up the ip and client connections or can tell me how to?

I have surfed to confusion.

Thanks

Thanks. The SBS is direct connect to the wireless router hub. How do you set up DNS and start and run it?

Wow. This is not going to be a two sentence answer.

Here is how I would set up the network -

1. Turn OFF the DHCP service on the router.
2. Set up the DHCP service on the SBS.
3. Set up the DNS service on the SBS server
4. Set a static IP address on the SBS server that within the IP range of the router OR set the router's IP address and subnet mask that is within range of the IP range of the SBS server.

Examples -
A. If you wish to leave the router's IP address at its factory setting then set the static IP address on the server to be within the same range of the router IP address - Router: 192.168.0.1 SM: 255.255.255.0 then hard set the SBS server address to something like 192.168.0.10 SM: 255.255.255 with the DG: 192.168.0.1 DNS Primary IP: 127.0.0.1 DNS Secondary IP: 192.168.0.1
B. You can set the router's LAN IP address to anything you wish for your private network IP range to be and set the SBS server to that range with the server's DNS primary as itself (127.0.0.1) and the secondary DNS as the router's IP address.

5. Set up the DHCP zones on the SBS DHCP service and have your included IP addresses and the reserved IP addresses for any network printers or such other devices.

6. Set the IP addresses of the workstation computers to "obtain IP address" (dynamic) with the Primary DNS address as the SBS server's IP address. You may also wish to add the router's IP address as the secondary DNS IP address.

7. Join the domain with at each workstation

8. On the SBS server's resources you can deny access to the shares on the server for the computer name of the laptop that you DO NOT want to have access to these resources. I have never had to do this, but I am reasonably certain that this is the best way to accomplish want you want.

_____These are general instructions for a basic server/client network. The configurations would have to be modified for your network's specific needs._____

First, SBS servers are not designed to run off wireless but will work, you should have your DNS server running correctly before attempt to connect clients.

On the WKS, you can leave the IP settings to auto, but the DNS should set to your SBS's DNS server's IP, and the correct string should be :
http://servername/connectcomputer

ADDED :
If you install your SBS2003 as it is, it should have guided you through the DNS / Active Directory / Exchange etc, its all part of the installation.
Your DNS server normally will be your server's static IP address.
