yes you can,the back shoes will fit either way ,they wont work right but they can be put on wrong,and will fit,they will grab though when you use the brake,good luck.

To a degree, yes.

Front pads....sometimes the pads are designed specifically to be inner or outer pads, and the difference may be minute, as simple as the wear detector being on the inside or the outside.

Rear shoes... the shoes with the smaller amount of brake material on it generally goes towards the front fo the vehicle.

oh yeah and most commonly done on the rear brake shoes
so many people put the wrong shoe forward usually because there's more surface area on the secondary shoe
front pads are kind of idiot proof though

accidently & unfortunately on some cars, YES. Ive had numerous customers arrive complaining that they just had brakes done elsewhere but car braking now worse. the front pads are put in backwards - metal backing side to metal rotor. destroys the rotors.
If drum shoes backwards, the fixer has to force them in. the springs are quite tense & only meant for one way

if they are drum brakes yes you can, the larger shoe always goes to the back.
