Salt is only good for ice.

A shovel is best for snow, just wait for it to abate and shovel away. However, I'd use sand before I'd use salt anyday.

Thats what I used when I lived in Michigan.

Salt will kill your plants or yard, it also destroys your concrete or blacktop in the long run.

Salk and calcium is not generally for snow, it is for ice.The way salt works is it burns a hole in the ice to let the air in to melt the ice. So you would put the salt on after as one would say on top of the ice. It will melt the snow but it is a waste when you can shovel it. You don't really get ice under snow unless the ice was there first.

If salt is spread on the road before it starts to snow, the new snow will melt and combine with the salt to form a brine. As snow accumulates it will float on top of the brine and will not stick to the road. When the road is plowed the plow will move the snow more completely than without the salt. This only works on paved roads, not on gravel roads.

Salt is meant for ice, not snow. You need to shovel the snow and wait for it to stop snowing. If ice develops after that, then you put down the salt. Roads are usually covered by sand, not salt because the salt can damage plants.

i would not be conscious salt on bare or moist pavement, yet whilst it somewhat is already coated with a layer of ice then it somewhat is clever to place it out now before the snow hits. Have a great day and God Bless!! Steve
