I agree with cpinatsi. Since when is it politically incorrect to be open about your religion? I'm not offended that other people believe in something different, why should they?
Having to hide what you believe in is fascism. We should be able to be open about our beliefs. Our freedom only stops where other people's begins.
Your friend's son should not hide his cross for any reason. Telling him to do so, is politically incorrect.

Well yes, political correctness is tiresome. It has come about because weak willed people are bowing to the demands of a radical vocal few. People are becoming afraid to stand up for themselves any more.
As for wearing a cross don't be afraid to wear it. Jesus was crucified in a very public place in front of a crowd. He did it for our eternal salvation. So why should anyone be afraid of wearing a cross. He should take a stand.
That is unless your friends son or anyone else doesn't believe in the Lordship and power of Jesus. If not, then go ahead and take it off. It didn't really mean anything to him in the first place.
Unless people begin to stand up for what they believe is true, pure and right, they will soon find themselves enslaved to the will and thoughts of others and will follow a path they did not choose.

the reason you're being called a bigot is considering which you're claiming that one and all Muslims are evil using strikes of Islamic extremists. it extremely is the such as claiming all Christians are white supremacists using KKK. don't get me incorrect i'm against political correctness (in certainty I consistently flow out of my thank you to be as politically incorrect as attainable). yet speaking out against oppression and claiming all Muslims are evil sexist terrorists are 2 thoroughly a number of issues.

If someone works in a religious affiliation I could see a point as not to rub it in to others in the work place. Otherwise is just plain stupid and politically incorrect to hide one's religion as to not offend the others.
And how about asking Muslim women to stop wearing scarves and caftans, or asking Jews to not wear the yarmulke or cut their sideburns?
How about asking Arabs to stop wearing turbans or hi jabs and start shaving?
All these are indicators of certain religious affiliations, why someone would be as stupid as ask another person to stop wearing a cross is not understandable
I want to believe it was a misunderstanding

Yes, I am tired of political correctness. If I want to wear a cross around my neck in America, I am going to do it because of the freedom given to me to do so.

Yes, I am. The new political correctness in America is "green". It's relating to Christmas (or more often "the holidays)--say a "holiday" tree--but it's also gotta be environmental--say a "holiday" tree with hybrid cars and stuff.
Also, in Australia, Santas aren't allowed to say "ho ho ho" because it might scare little children. Instead they must say "ha ha ha".
I don't care for political correctness, and most other people don't either, so if you say things "incorrectly", most people won't be offended.

This is not political corectness, it is fascism and censorship, which is the opposite of political correct.
