It sounds like the problem is the transformer. The voltage could be too high. You could check the output with a mulitmeter and see if the voltage is within range for the doorbell you are using. If the doorbells keep getting burned out, chances are, there is too much voltage reaching the coil. If you are not using a transformer to get it down to the rated voltage (24v or whatever), that could be the problem.

I would think that you have a door bell that is wired to your ringer.

My mother had the same problem in a 50 year old house with old wiring. After years of problems, we bought her battery operated door bells.

This should save you money and headaches.

I live in Florida. It seems like the heat effects the doorbells. Ours worked for a while then gave up. Now the weather is cooler it works again. Could also be the batteries.

Your losing power, some way?! Is it battery powered or hard-wired??

If battery powered - I'd check batteries (I know, duh)

If hard-wired - something is killing the power out as the signal is passed.

EDIT - I agree about the ground wire!

The above answers are idiotic.

Just change the transformer to a higher wattage output.

If the doorbell will embarrass you in front of your friends, I'd look for some new friends.

Please forgive this, but it's late. It isn't dying, it's merely rebelling; much as we do when "Pushed"

The cure is as easy as the notion of why.
