I know that Midheaven indicates a person's ideal profession, but what part of a person's chart indicates the individual's work ethic? Mercury?
And does it makes sense that fixed signs would work harder, because of the nature of fixed signs? All the fixed signs I know, are extremely perseverant when working
Caps are very hard working; however, they don't seem to have as hard of a time of taking a breather (not an overly long one, though). They are very sensible about their work habits. I also know a several Geminis that work non-stop (ultimate multi-taskers, as well)
I am sure upbringing plays big into this area as well.
What are your thoughts/knowledge in this area?

yeah, the 6th house is work. There are 3 "financial" houses--the second is what you own, buying and selling etc.; the tenth is a profession, that which you do which requires your special talents, and the 6th is a job, employment. Note that this is employment on an even-exchange basis--a certain amount of pay for a certain amount of work, which provides for physical needs--also ruled by the 6th house. Note that at the time of day the sun is in the 6th house--approximately 6-8pm--most people are leaving work (transitioning from public life, the 12th-7th houses, to private, 6th-1st), coming home and taking care of dinner, etc.--their physical needs--before perhaps entertaining or going out dancing when the sun moves into the 5th house.
I don't think fixed signs necessarily work harder, some of them can be very lazy, but they do tend to be reliable. Cardinal signs tend to get people going but don't have the same follow-through, while mutable signs adapt well to new situations but also move on to other new situations more frequently. Look to the placement and strength of saturn in the chart to get a feel for work ethic.

Interesting. I don't think I act like my Midheaven is how I am work, personally speaking. My Midheaven is in Libra/Scorpio cusp, and I don't totally see it.
My Mercury and Sun is in Libra, and when it comes to dealing with my coworkers, I'm very Libra. I'm social, fair, and logical. I treat everyone as equals and emphasize teamwork. To me, it doesn't matter where on the ladder you are; it only matters that you're part of the chain and every link is important in the chain.
When it comes to my own personal work ethic and how I deal with the workload myself, I think it's my moon in Virgo that goes to work. I'm incredibly organized and tidy at work. I hate clutter and mess. And I need to do my work the way I know will guarantee results. I'm also a big perfectionist at work. If the littlest thing is off on what I worked on, I beat myself up terribly about it and feel like I let everyone (especially myself) down, even though that's rarely the case.
But this is a very interesting question. Really it could be a combination of planet and house influences. But this would be my personal experience. Great question, though!

"Succedent houses: the second house shows financial status thru work by our own efforts and the opposite succedent house, the eight, shows whatever we may receive from others as legacies, etc. The other succedent houses, the fifth and eleventh, show how our income may be spent, for the fifth house indicates children who have a legitimate claim to a share of our income, and the eleventh house shows the children of our brains, our hopes, wishes and aspirations which also draw upon our resources."
I have the sun in the second house.

Planets in the 6th, the sign on the 6th house cusp, and the ruler of the sign on the 6th house cusp. I suppose that saturn's placement could also indicate how hard working a person is as well.

jupiter and saturn. 9th house to a much less subtle effect (might govern their "ideals" when they sit down and think about them, but for how they behave and act jupiter and saturn would trump it).
