Snape has loved Harry's mom (Lily Evans) ever since he was young. Since Harry has his mom's eyes, they remind Snape of Lily and that Harry is her son

Harry was physically the image of his father, James, except for his eyes, which were just like his mother, Lily.

Severus Snape had loved Lily Evans since they were young children. They grew up together and eventually went to Hogwarts together, where they were best friends. Their Patronas' were identical: each cast a doe. Severus always had feelings for Lily, even after they had their falling out (Sev called Lily "mudblood" when she tried to defend him from James--he wasn't thinking and was very upset). Even after Lily married James, and Severus joined the Death Eaters, Severus loved Lily Potter. He was willing to betray his master, Voldemort, by exposing the plot against the Potter's lives, just to try and save her.

When Lily was killed in the attack, Severus was devestated. Professor Dumbledore convinced Severus that his duty now was to protect Lily's only son, to make sure that Lily's sacrifice wasn't in vain.

Every action of Severus Snape's after this, in protecting Harry Potter, was for the love SS held for his departed friend, Lily. Whenever he looked at Harry's face, he saw her eyes. That is what drove him until the day he died.

Yup yup Mirko's right (who can resist a kitty in a santa hat!)

Harry has Lilly's eyes means it's a reminder every time Snape looked at him that he lost his love by being nasty.

Incidentally, in the musical version of "The Secret Garden" the girl, Mary, had her Aunt Lilly's eyes - something that caused her uncle much pain.

Harry has always had his mother's eyes. It has been mentioned repeatedly. It's just like anyone having their mother's features or their father's features. In this case, however, I think Lili had very expressive and sensitive eyes, and that they represent the fact that Harry is more sensitive and kinder than his father would have been in the same situations. He is, like all children, a mix of his parents. He has his father's strength and daring, and his Mother's sensitivity and kindness, although, of course, some of that is the result of living with the Dursley's as well.
