The biggest threats are Download websites. This includes P2P file sharing websites and bogus share music sites.

The next big threat is finding the wrong sites at Google and other search engines. Be sure to look at the website URL before clicking on it. Close the window immediately if you feel threatened with popups.

Then there is the SPAM and Joke e-mails that your friends send you. Some of this crap can be ridden with spyware and other threats that slow down your computer and make it vulnerable to threats.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

You simply can't get a virus by visiting a website, a virus enters a computer by some sort of means of downloading. Some people download music or movies and inside of the file hides a virus that is now on your hard drive that can activate once opened. Sometimes you get those pop-ups that won't leave you alone till you hit 'yes' or 'ok', those are virus' as well.

So, you know how you sometimes go to a site and it has all these advertisements? Well these advertisements have the ability to store cookies on your computer. But when you go to a site that has an even bigger thing, A VIRUS, it automatically attaches itself to your computer causing your computer to have a virus.
You can also get viruses from emails you open or from any attachments on the email.
Viruses can also appear on Music and Video downloads, so always be careful when downloading from sites that allow users to upload their own music or video files at no cost because users might include viruses or trojans in them.

To prevent viruses from your computer, use a firewall and an antivirus program such as Norton Antivirus.

Someone puts it in a package of code and attaches it to an email message or website so that when you activate the mail or site, the code copies the virus to your machine and runs it to install it. Being a virus program, it is designed to attach itself to your emails to get to other machines before it carries out its other task(s) like damaging your files or linking to other computers to do damage to other systems.
