No it was not real...
I saw a "Making of" about it and the girl in the group explained how they were not told much about the project and that her mom almost didn't let her do it until they signed a contract saying that nothing would happen to her daughter out in the woods.
They sent the group out with a list of "lines" to read but other then the few pages of scrypeted dialog they were told to improvise.
They were not told what would happen so at night when those noises happened they knew that "Something" might happen but not what so a lot of their fear was real in that they didn't know if it was "Their" people out there or if it was really a bear or something.
Go online to like, IFC or Sundance, or just wikipedia and you will find out that I am right...
I SWEAR... I watched a Making Of Special on IFC when the movie came out.

No. It was a very low budget independent movie that advertised itself as real. This worked in making them a very large profit, but pissed a lot of movie goers off when they found out it wasn't real. Me being one of them.

No! It was just a movie, it sure scared the hell out of my cousin and her husband!!! LOL!!! I like stuff like that , Ijust didn't like that movie much!
