The first house I moved into, my neighbor brought a loaf of bread, a can of salt, and a bottle of wine. He said it was tradition. I liked him! He was a great neighbor!

my best advice for you would to do the same thing i did when i moved a new cat into a new house i would like to suggest that you start by getting a litter box for the inside of the house if you dont already have one and if you do great but i would make sure that for the first couple of days or even the first week if you wanted keep the litter box right where the cat can see it dont let the cat go outside unless your right there with it and after the first two or three days then i would gradually let him or her go outside by themselves but by that time they should already be so used to the new place that they will forget all about the old place you used to live no matter how close you are to your old house

Neighbors never bought anything over. But the new home nuilder send a basket of cookies from this great bakery in town, my realtor gave us an INCREDIBLE BBQ Grill and the loan officer sent over a gift card from Pier One for $200. They did not like each other and competed. We Won!!!!

Nothing - isn't that horrible?
Then again I wouldn't really want some funky homemade pie or anything either.
I did bring my new neighbors a bag of sugar and told them if the ever needed anything we are right here:)
It goes with the old saying,"Could I borrow a cup of sugar?"

I didn't get anything. I didn't even think people still did that sort of thing. I thought that was old school. Now I feel if your neighbors ain't giving you hell then that is a welcoming gift.

I don't have any neighbors. Works wonderfully when I want to crank up the stereo, but seems creepy to come home after dark with no neighbors nearby.

Nothing. I sold my big house and bought a smaller one. Lucky (and I am truly being sarcastic) for me a neighbor has a Bull Mastiff who strolls onto my driveway by the gate and po*ps in the middle of the entrance.
That's what I call the "Welcome Wagon"!!! And still today that same big dog po*ps in my driveway.

Nothing. It really shocked me because in Iowa people usually bring a welcoming gift; usually food.

Nothing... in Spain we dont have that custom.. but in the movies all the States neighbours do it and seem to be very kind and nice.
Any way I dont like my neighbors, and I think we (ma family and I ) are liked by them, so we live our lifes without disturb each other.

Only 1 family came over- it was actually before we moved in while we were paiting the whole house. They brought doughnuts, which we thought was super nice! Within a few weeks, their younger son was over playing with my grandson and the little twerp downloaded porn onto my computer! We don't talk to them anymore!
