We went all out and spent about $240.00 on my son a bat...yeah-it was dumb-he only hit about 5 balls that year (hee-hee-it was pretty sad) -then they get taller and they need a new bat......you can get a decent bat for about $60.00 then if he sticks with it and is good you can splerge.

Thinking your son should give up baseball is dumb. If he has a passion for it then it's not wasting money. And you don't need a dad to be good at baseball and to like it. I LOVE baseball and it's my dream to be an MLB player - And my dad doesn't pay attention to sports at all. I developed my loving of the game without my dad, and became a great player on my own. It all started with this one baseball game I saw. The next thing I knew I was watching every Yankee game in the season. I'm a great player now and I'm 12. When I was in third grade I didn't even know the basic rules of baseball and now I can list every single rule there is. I didn't even like sports! I hated them! And I was TERRIBLE. But look at me now. A good player and a fan of watching it too. So to answer your question, no, it's not wasting money. He can always come around with a liking for it and have a great ability. Baseball is my life.

I don't know how much bats would go for know a days, but you can check Amazon.com, to see what they have, and what prices they are asking for. Or call around sports stores in your area, maybe they run some bats at good prices, since you don't want to pay $100.00 for a bit. But what if your 10 year old son, plays baseball, and finds he doesn't like it. Do your new town have football running in the fall? But baseball is my sport, and I will pefer it over football almost any day, but that doesn't stop me from liking football movies. But here are some baseball bats at http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002-8307608-2224838?url=search-alias%3Dsporting&field-keywords=baseball+bats+&x=41&y=22 , I don't know if these are any ones that you are looking for, and some are mroe then 100.00, but not all of them, but you might like most of the prices they are offering. I don't really do bat shopping every day.

If u think ur kid is going to enjoy baseball and really do well, then you have to buy a good bat. You really cant avoid spending over 100bucks man. I recommend buying a TPX Omaha 31- 19, a Gen 1X 31-18.5, or if you really want to dig deep into ur pocket and want him to be holdin a big stick go for the Stealth CNT 31-23, or the EXOgrid 32-?
But i had a GEN1X and it was great and smooth.

I wouldn't spend too much. Be sure he likes the game. Our grandson just turned 13, seventh grade, been playing baseball, football and basketball since first grade. Some of us pitched in for a $330.00 bat. My point is---the longer they go, the better they get, the more pricey the gear. So do with what you can get away with now. If he is an athlete, you'll NEED to buy the "good" stuff later. BUT--have fun.

At that age in his first year, I'd say $40-50. If he played in high school, you might spend $150-200. Football is my favorite sport too...but I wouldn't discourage your kid from playing baseball to play football. Baseball is still a man's sport, with a lot fewer injuries.

ok, ive played baseball forever and im 16. if you want to get him a GOOD bat it will be around $125 and i think he needs a 28 or 29" 30 is too long. but if you want a cheap one that gets the job done go to Academy...Sports Authority....Midwest Sporting Goods and get one for $70-$80. when your young like that your pride is the bat you have and the type of glove (Easton). but good luck

You can probably get one like that for $30-$40 or less at a Sporting goods store because if he's never played baseball he doesn't need anything special.

30" is a bit too big will be awkward on his swing.
Go with a 28 or 26 so its not so awkward on his swing and has less weight to push through it.
You will be spending about $50-75

Since he has never played baseball you could get one for under $40, but once he plays more you might want to buy him a $100 one since there is a difference.
