What did people do before there were grocery stores?

how did they get food

From the farmers markets or trade markets. Or they grew their own food. I'm not sure, honestly. But markets have been around for centuries, however access to them has not always been available for everyone. Similar to today. So, I guessing they also grew their own food, traded w/ neighbors and made the most of their natural resources, in those cases. Or made long trips to the markets.

You shopped the food merchants on the street
a lot f Europe still does that here in New York some areas continue to sell vegetables and fruit and dried good s as beans
and nuts even before re fridges they had delivery of ice
we bought fresh poultry choose the chicken and they
prepared him for you you left with him luke warm

some how i thought u were older then that,of course u no bout killin hogs,squirrels,goats,an game birds an don't forget chickens,vegies from gardens,lard from hogs flour an meal from the feilds of corn an wheat,i guess i'm that old then

Most people were raised on farms,they grew there own veggies killed there own cows, plucked the feathers out of the chicken before boiling, ate eggs fresh from chickens, milked the cows. Etc etc....

Hmm. I guess at the markets. Or before market days, maybe by horse to shoot animals or pick vegtables/fruit.

eat dirt and bugs and water all that down from rockie muddy ponds or creek banks

Farmers peddled their products on trucks or horse and wagon.
My parents bought most products that way.
