Most likely it will never end:

1. The US needs the oil.

2 The US is building the largest embassy of ours in the world there.

3. We have established four giant military bases and brought the runways up to lengths that will allow planes we don't even have yet to land.

4. Iraq is good place from which to watch the former Soviet Union.
We used to do that from Iran when the Shah was in power.

5. Bush & Cheney's corporate supporters have become rich beyond the dreams of avarice. They will keep paying our politicians to stay the course and send every penny in America to Texas and Iraq forever, if allowed to do so.

Personally, I believe that Bush really believed the war would be easy. As Cheney said, "We'll be greeted as liberators." That didn't happen. Obviously, the Executive branch has succumbed to idiocy and is beyond logic or reason.

If we are smart, we will cut our losses and leave like in Vietnam, but that is not likely.

We will end up like the Soviet Union, which "knew" it would beat the Afghans. Like the Russians we will end up bankrupt, powerless and disgraced.

The American people will pay a horrible economic price when the Chinese who are loaning us the money for the war want their money back with interest.

Bush will go back to Crawford while you and I and our children keep paying and paying and paying.

Going back to your original question, Bush is a fool.

Osama Bin Laden laid trap on 9-11. He hoped the US would get into a war in the Middle East that would turn into an endless quagmire that would weaken us just like the Taliban did with the Soviets.

Like fools, we took the bait and did exactly what Bin Laden wanted us to do. Now we will pay the price.

Personally, I believe the reason there have been no more attacks on the US is because 9-11 accomplished exactly what Al Quaeda wanted.

Bush is a fool who walked right into Bin Ladin's trap. As foolish as he is I think he thought he would teach democracy to the Iraqis. It would appear we are the ones getting an education in the Middle East.

God Save America.

We have permanent military bases in Iraq, so we will always have a presence there, unless we are willing to dismantle or turn over these bases. More likely, it will end gradually over the course of a decade or two, rather than suddenly. It might never end in the sense that there could always be occasional suicide bombings and other forms of guerilla-style violence, much as we see in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict today.

I believe Bush started the war primarily to build the permanent bases. Although, he certainly didn't present that as the reason for America and her allies to go to war!

When?: After Bush leaves or is forcibly extracted from the White House in 2009. How?: Through a grudging contract some of the factions that no person goes to be glad with however all can are living with and the expulsion or destruction of Foreign Terrorists by way of Religious Militias and Tribal Vigilantes. Under what occasions?: Over the lifeless our bodies of Islamic Terrorists, Oil Sheikhs, Christian Dominionists and Big Business--all of whom have their possess causes to hate and worry Democracy. Maliki has stated on a couple of instances that Iraqis can take it from right here. I suppose him. Iraqis are bored stiff with the battle. Once the Coalition troops are out of the best way, there can be a short lived massacre, adopted by way of a lengthy, "I hate you, however different persons hate us extra, and we are going broke," style of peace.

Ron Paul gets elected.. the war ends simple.

Bush started the war because he didn't have any foreign policy experience, so he gave the reins to Dick Cheney. Dick Cheney and the people he represents want more control over America, so, they have continued to spread their message of fear while all the while eroding civil liberties. Eventually, every American will agree to be implanted with a radio transponder "for your own protection." Essentially, you will be slaves, your every movement mapped, your decisions and preferences weighed and evaluated, and if you question authority you will be labelled a terrorist hunted down and dealt with.

Bushy Bush started it because his I.Q. is nil, and he listens to no one.

The war will end for the US when the soldiers get on their military planes and head for home. Simple as that.
What they do in Iraq from then, on is up to them..
As you said Saddam has been killed, I thought that was what Bushy Bush went there for...no plan was made to leave...............so until we get A SENSIBLE PRESIDENT who knows the US have no business there...then and only then will the INVASION end.

you should watch the movie "NO END IN SIGHT"... that will give you a pretty good insight about why things went to horribly wrong...

the main _excuse_ to go to Iraq was that Iraq was developing weapons of mass destructions... don't ask me what Bush's real reason was... I never understood that lunatic... (personal vendetta ?... ego? ... I really don't know...)

it will end when we steal all their oil which should be ours anyway because they didn't need it until WE invented cars and it was OUR TECHNOLOGY that dug it out of the ground and it was OUR TECHNOLOGY that discovered petroleum cracking and how to make airplane fuel. They're just a bunch of squatters who live on top of OUR OIL!!
