University philosophy departments normally handle the teaching of formal logic, but it's awfully important in any science where mathematics is important, electronic eng and whenever you're keen on presenting a coherent argument.

A majority of people would say that logic and mathematics are not part of science, even though math is obviously very closely related to science.

HOWEVER, it sounds like you've been handed a definition of "a science" that DOES cover logic.
