If you are doing that to get a clog caused by solidified fat you will have a problem. The hot water will melt the fat near the drain and then let it travel molten along the pipe till it gets cool enough and then it will start to do a clog there. After a while you will have a clogged pipe section out of the reach of your hot water.

It's bad for your pipes. I learned the hard way. The salt eats away at the lining of the pipes. Have you ever seen the results of salt water on grass, plants, cars, boats, etc...after a tropical storm/hurricane. It RUINS IT. It acts like an acid. Also the hot water can loosen the seals of the pipe joints which can cause leaks and further damage. The cure for pouring just plain hot water as in after cooking potatoes is to run your cold water as your pouring down the drain. If he doesn't mind dumping salt water outside of the house then let him.

It shouldn't. Even if the drain pipe is plastic, it's of a heavy enough gauge (or should be) that it can withstand the hot water. That will also help to remove any grease or fat that might have gone down the drain, cooled, and stuck to the sides of the pipes.

Yes and no. If the pipes under your sink are plastic, than yes boiling hot water can damage them. If metal no. Never pore cooking oil down a drain, it will cause it to stop up giving time. Pour cooking oil in a can and place in the garbage.

Hot water will not harm pipes. To clean them pour a cup of vinegar in them every 2 weeks.

it won't hurt the pipes, but if there is a build up of grease on your pipes it will either melt it away or push it into a big clog.

Nope. But if you're trying to clear a clog, use a toilet plunger.
