There are several programs on the market that are "security" programs designed to clean your computer at reboot and bring it back to "new". Microsoft Steady State would be one of those.
Another answer would be spyware on your computer. Spybot 1.5 is available at download.com. I recommend using the default settings except for using the Tea Tree protection (turn it off). Download all available updates (the wizard will walk you through) and then run a full system scan. Immunize afterward for permanent protections.
Third, have you scanned your computer for these missing files? Perhaps they are merely misplaced?
The System Restore feature stated above will not work if it is a virus. It merely changes system settings and rarely affects viruses (if it was which I doubt).

I would suggest doing a system restore.
Click start -> All programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System restore.
It'll lead you through everything. I would probably restore it to like 3 weeks ago. Basically, what this does is make your computer exactly the way it was at that time. So if now you have a virus, you won't if you restore it to the way it was 3 weeks ago.
I hope I helped =)

You are not finding the virus...you probably have something that has found its way around all you security and sometimes they get to know virus checkers. Also how much memory do you have on your computer or V memory which it could be shutting down. To get it back to normal you have to run a scan disk on it and clean it totally off. If you down load much these things will happen..clean your hard drive completely off.

hi vanessa,i presume you have xp,if so put the xp installation disc into your cd drive and restart your computer. the computer should boot off the disc, and start to go into the installation process, follow the prompts as if you were doing an installation, then you will come to a window with a few options on it and one of them will be-- DO YOU WANT TO REPAIR WINDOWS?PRESS "R". do that --press r and windows will repair itself taking whatever files it needs from the disc the only thing that you will lose will be all your microsoft updates--you will have to go to the microsoft update centre and download them again---whew--cheers.ps this will only work if you are CERTAIN that you do not have a virus.

All virus programs dont find every single thing. Either there is a program deleting your ram so you will lose everything. You have to call your PC manufacturer or go to system restore by going to start and accesories and system tools and there will be system restore. restore your system and follow the instructions on the screen
hope it helps.

theres a good possibility that someone is hacking into your computer, or you have a virus.
What i recommend that i use is AVg anti virus program, and also look into their security suite.
