What you should do is make an appointment as soon as you find out...they tell you this because it isn't always as simple as walking in to your doctors office. Most women have to wait a few weeks before they are able to get into their first appointment. You might also want to start looking & asking around for a doctor you are comfortable with, a hospital that offers some of the things you would like to have, and a birthing environment that you would like to have your baby in. If you start looking during your first trimester - this allows you to pick a doctor and stick with him through the entire time and gives you time to shop around. For the first appointment it's just a basic screening that will tell you some facts about you and your baby, but as your appointments progress you really want to build a relationship with your health care provider and the hospital.

I took a pregnancy test around six weeks and I was in the doctor's office before the day was out. That is because I was in my early thirties and considered a 'high risk.' And I had been through three miscarriages previously. To avoid any potential complications, I would call the doc's office and see if they can work you in within the next two weeks. The first seven weeks is very critical and extremely important. It can mean the difference in having a healthy baby and having a miscarriage. I, too, had a couple of sonograms, one early on in my pregnancy and the other one at 16 weeks. My timing was just right!
I have never heard that about being nine weeks pregnant before an OB would see you. That's kind of 'out there.' I just happened to need some help with my hormone level, so I got in just in time. You are four weeks, so make an appointment as soon as the OB can work you in, just to be safe! Don't forget to get on those prescription prenatal vitamins asap!
Good Luck to you and Congratulations!! :-)

Well I called my doctor right away, so by the time I saw her, (a few days later) I was just 4 weeks. That appointment was to confirm pregnancy. I'm now 8 weeks, and I see her again next week. So I'll be 9 weeks then. She'll order blood tests and such then. Then I'll have another one a few weeks later (in January) and my first appointment with my ob/gyn is in February when I'll be 18 weeks.
I say go to your doctors asap, :)

Congrats! You will supply ALL your med historical past. You will pee in a cup. They will do middle Doppler. You gets prescription for pre-natals and they're going to reply any questions that you've got. I had such a lot of disorders in my third being pregnant that I ultimately received wise (my husband did) and we wrote down the questions and took with us. If you might have a mobile with a notice pad it's the pleasant in view that then you will not put out of your mind the paper! It is lovely pursuits and effortless however make certain you ask some thing you might have to your brain!! Good Luck!

I've heard that anywhere from 8-12 weeks is good. If you are high-risk (older age, previous miscarriage, other complications) you are advised to have a pre-natal exam ASAP. Otherwise, it's perfectly OK to wait. My first pre-natal appointment is at 12 weeks--it was the earliest I could get an appointment since I didn't have an OB :)

i was told to go as soon as i had a positive pregnancy test. the sooner you start prenatal care and vitamins the better!
if your dr won't take you for a few weeks, fine, but most will take you at about 6 weeks i think, so you could go ahead and schedule that first appointment and proably get the prenatal blood work out of the way

Why don't you call your Doc and see what they say? All Doctors are different. I saw mine at 6 weeks and then I had to go for another ultrasound at 8 weeks. My next appointment is not until I am 13 weeks.

call now in case it takes a while to get in, but the other people are right, most docs won't see you until 8 or 9 weeks. Mine wouldn't schedule any earlier than 9.

It depends on the doctor. Call and see what he/she says. If you have questions you need to ask, then it is a good idea to make the appointment since you may have to wait to get in. You should start taking prenatal vitamins in the mean time though.
Congrats!

If you already have decided who you want to see, you should call their office and see what their policy is. You will also want to make sure they are accepting new patients, if you are going to a new Dr. I had my first visit, which was blood work and a bunch of questions with my Dr.'s assistant, at 8 weeks and my first visit with my Dr. at 13 weeks.
good luck!
