We have a lot to say about our Government and how it is run--so--
What, in your mind, does a good education involve? If you could design the ideal educational system, what would it include? How can you tell when someone's been well-educated (whatever that means to you!)? Or, put another what, what are the characteristics of a good education

And is that most important in running our countries? What is?

Answer any or all

The quest for knowledge must be complemented with what is moral. Good education must provide a person the tools to learn what it is all about life but must not disregard what is happening in the society. The better education is the molding of a person to be a knowledgeable citizen but an upright person.

I think that a good education starts with telling kids how their government works... that is not done well enough these days...

For the longest time, History class and Government class have been teaching some really prejudice stuff.

Examples:
Columbus Discovered America - wrong. It was Amerigo Vespucci and the natives were here first... so it wasn't really "discovered" at all.
Every Vote Counts - wrong. We have an electoral college that decides against districts that did not win the majority in the state. Therefore, you can have a President that MOST people in the country voted against.

How can we expect kids to really learn anything when their foundation for reality is based on lies like this?

College education is good... many people criticize it but you can really tell the difference between the people who dropped out and the folks who went on to pursue their Master's Degree.

The problem is - you have some "higher ups" that don't want the common man to see the value in a good education... they perpetuate the propaganda that tells you it's best not to take from "the tree of knowledge" and that educated people "just think they are smart".

A good education would include a well rounded education system. You can have the best buildings and teachers, but until you have parents and kids who take and interest in their education. It really doesn't matter. Kids today are graduating and without a basic education. They cant answer simple questions, like who is the President and Vice President and basic U.S. History questions. Kids today need to spend more time in the classroom, to be competitive in the international job market.

The questions and answers on here are examples of our education system. It is embarrassing!!! Our education system has failed a lot of you.

First of all, besides the normal reading writing and arithmetic, American History is vital and also Government structure.
Best thing American kids had while I was growing up was School House Rock. by the time I was in 1'st grade, I knew what the Emancipation Proclamation was and the battle of Gettysburg. I knew all the houses of Government and my vowels and consonants, All from listening to songs during cartoons. Counting, adding, multiplication, history, Government and last but most important, PATRIOTISM.
Bought the DVD collection for my little ones and they will be at advantage just for knowing the words to , I'm just a Bill on Capital Hill.
Kids are getting jipped now when it comes to common sense teaching and also work ethic training at home and school.
Sign of a well educated child,,, He or she is well disciplined in their studies and have set goals for their future.

The way education credits are determines has a lot to do with the income and tax liability of the person claiming the credit. So without knowing the complete details of the tax return there is no way of knowing how the credit was calculated. There are limitations on credits if there is a small tax liability before the credit or if the adjusted gross income is high enough for the credits to phase out. Laura H – H&R Block – Senior Tax Advisor 5 **This advice was prepared based on our understanding of the tax law in effect at the time it was written as it applies to the facts that you provided.

Not sure. I know many a person who has many degrees, and higher learning education but can't change a light bulb... Some find it hard to function in society because they are so brainy, no one can relate to them. It is a lonely and isolated existence. Can you be over-educated? I think so. And if you get there, what does that get you? Wisdom is key to education. How do you get that? Not sure. Each Man is given a portion of Wisdom. Some, more than others. Not everyone has the opportunity of education. I know one man in particular who never graduated from High school. He managed to build his company and sold it 4 years ago for 300 million dollars. Not only did he lack education, he had no tact. But he was very wise and incredibly shrewd. It is my opinion, that experience and wisdom can outweigh book education. But, self made people are not looked upon favorably because they do not have the credentials society thinks they should have.

I wonder about the education of "rabble rouser".

Columbus is given credit for discovering American, because no one in Europe knew it was there. Yes, the Native Americans were there first, but Columbus came before Vespucci. Vespucci was the first European to name the area the New World; so a German cartographer labelled the New World "America" after him.

And he knows next to nothing about the electoral college. It is not determined by districts, but states.

If he has a master's degree, it surely is not in history or political science.

Education is in the mind of the beholder.

Most college graduates are essentially illiterate and cannot comprehend many common communications. These are people who are called "educated".

In my experience most people educate themselves on things they want to know. Growing up in a partially Jewish family in a Jewish neighborhood I also learned that people studied things that they are afraid of, NAZI Germany for example.

Academic credentials are vastly overrated in my opinion. In fact, the ability to read and write is often seen as an indicator of intelligence. In actuality reading, writing, grammar and multiple languages tend to indicate education. All of these skills are important for one thing and one thing only, communication.

In my opinion people should educate themselves to the point where they feel confident about their ability to communicate ideas, and then they should continually educate themselves to maintain that level of ability to communicate.

When people stop communicating they start dying, stagnating into a fetid pool of organic scum like uneaten food on a counter.
