I'm almost certain I have a virus. I've been noticing symptoms like programs not loading correctly or at all, constant browser hijacking, taskmanager being disabled, and being a gamer my ping is exceedingly high (6000+ms). I use Norton Internet Security 2007 and have run sevral full-system scans but come up with nothing. I can't do a system restore because I have no restore points saved - likely the doing of the virus. I'm not hugely familiar with viruses and short of wiping my hard drive clean I'm not sure how to correct it. If anyone could diagnose my problem or tell me how to correct it I would greatly appreciate it.

You can run Trend Micro HouseCall, direct from their server. There is no conflict with your Nortons antiviurs program. Here is the link, open and follow the instructions on the webpage. You will have to download an active 'X", that is 100% safe for Trend Micro to scan your entire system. Time can take upto one hour, but well worth the time, because it will find all viruses & spyware and destroy them.

Good luck, hope this will fix your system.

The easiest thing is your situation would be to run some online virus scans.
Do NOT install another antivirus program with Norton, or they will conflict. Running online scans is perfectly OK.

I recommend the following;
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
http://housecall.antivirus.com/us/index.html
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

I also strongly recommend you run some antispyware programs. SUPERAntiSpyware is VERY good - it looks kinda cheap, but highly effective.

A-Squared free and Spybot search and destroy are also very good.

Try http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm it's a free online scan. That might find it.

Also try AVG antivirus, it's a free anti-virus program that is pretty good.

Also check to see if it's another issue- Have you defragmented recently? What about excess processes running? Are too many computers hooked up to your internet network, and so slowing down the router?
