I must admit some of the things are really cool, but explain why I would want to have a blog? Have pity on the old lady. Don't make fun of me.

Don't be sorry, it's a great question to consider.
I agree with you. Some writer's have blogs and continually pound out articles on their chosen interests.
I'm a writer, but I have no interest in maintaining a blog.
However, people, especially youngsters and teens, need to be aware that once on the web, ALWAYS on the web. Prospective employers are doing web searches for any applicant's postings and consider what they find in the hiring process.
If they're going to go on the web, keep their language civil, keep their clothes on and keep alcohol out of the pictures.

I agree. I have a short blogging history, and I talk about things I don't mind sharing, not the gory personal stuff. I've always kept a journal, and kept it hidden too. This is a fun way to connect further with some of the people I've met online.

A good friend of mine writes a crime blog. (fabulous tenor)

www.truecrimeweblog.com

He has become so well known doing it that he does countless news appearances for FOX, NBC, Court TV and CNN. He has also done a pilot for Court TV that I think is going to be picked up. -all because of his blog. He is a gifted writer and this is a great outlet for him. Even personal blogs are only as personal as the writer wants them to be. (Personally, I am much more private but I can see the seduction)

blogs don't have to be diaries. Some are just like the tabloids or news or whatever the blogger puts on there. I go to this one:
www.darchtimes.com
He has a bi-lingual weblog that is dutch on the right side and english on the left side. It's really neat.

I enjoy reading some blogs. It is interesting what you can learn from other people's experiences. I like to journal but not over the internet. Personally, i think bloggers like to share about their lives and experiences so we can indirectly see how we each individual lives by.

Blogs are online diaries, so people can read about their life escapades thoughts and experiences, make their life seem more interesting and special, also to maintain memories. I used to keep a diary but now grew tired of it, pretty soon they will grew out of it too...

You can have a blog and if you don't want anyone knowing your business then such personal things should not be posted. Just be mindful!

My blog is to share my news with family members and friends (I have a large family). I personally know all of my MySpace friends, and they enjoy my blogs. (PS - I'm an old lady, too).

Most people use anonymous names..and they want to vent...a blog is a bit like a journal...plus you can say things to people who don't know you.
It a new generation thing...I agree with you, how much do you want someone else to know about you.

I'm sort of young and have wondered the same thing. It seems like airing one's "dirty laundry" in public.
