The surgical procedure for abortion is the same one prescribed for a woman who has a miscarriage. You need to get facts before you can write either way, don't you think? The risk of death from pregnancy (even when you don't include ectopic pregnancy) is considerably higher than from an abortion. Did you miss that?

The statement below is what you will find at the CDC. However, it hides about 20 extra deaths due to infections caused by c-sections and other conditions that are attributed incorrectly to other causes. Some states are now requiring this data to be included if the death occurs within one year as a direct result of pregnancy. In most states, the death has to occur before she leaves the hospital after giving birth which is totally bogus.

In the United States, the maternal death rate was 17 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births in 2000.

The statement below is what you will find at the CDC. Fair number. But this 14 in 1.7 MILLION abortions (over those 2 years, that would be 7 in 855,000 abortions.

In 1998 and 1999 (the most recent years for which data are available), 14 women died as a result of complications from known legal induced abortion. Ten of these deaths occurred in 1998 and four occurred in 1999; no deaths were associated with known illegal abortion.

Finally, explain why it should be the government's job to make this decision? Should they also decide which parenting choices you can make and which you can't (i.e. only 1 hour of TV watching per week per age of child)? Consider also a perfect example: in Brazil, abortion is only permitted for rape and health of woman. In the capital city alone, there are 1 million plus abandoned children living in the streets and slums. Where are all the adopting parents??? When you have a glut of unwanted children, what happens is that they are exploited just as orphaned and unwanted children were exploited here in the US until the 1950s. Oh, yeah, they were 'adopted' but most were just cheap farm or factory labor and thrown out at legal age. My best friend's father was one of them.

well obvously if you are raped it is no way no how your fault!!!! I think abortion should be legal because once its not legal people will do it anyhow in a very unsafe method. Thats how they use to do it when it was in fact illegal! I believe strongly in a womens right to choose cause its her body and as a 7th grader you can not even understand the scope of this. I am a mom to 2 beautiful children and 1 on the way and would never have an abortion because of my actions but if I were rape I would definately consider it!!!

The abortion debate is as old as abortion itself. it will never be resolved. i believe that women should have the right to choose what to do with their lives and their body. i was raped at 12, had the baby at 13, and I believe that if abortion had been presented to me as a choice, I would have taken it in a heartbeat. i did not want to have sex, I did not want to be pregnant, and I did not want to have the baby. The complate loss of control, having to go thru all that pain after all the initial pain, no pleasure involved here anywhere. made me pro-choice for life. i believe that if I had not been a very strong person that being forced to have that child, which was like being raped all over again, would have destroyed me. Therefore I believe that abortion is moral, is a responsible choice and my mind will never be changed.

And believe me, I would have taken any mediacal risk never to have see that child or go thru the labor and delivery which at 13, was more dangerous to my body than an abortion would have been. My God, some people don't deserve to think.

I did a debate when I was a Freshman in high school about this. It was my best friend and I against a couple of other friends of ours. So I think Lucky is wrong, that schools don't let you do this.

Personally I feel that abortion should be legal and an option for any woman. I do not like that it is sometimes used as a form of birth control, but there are always people who will abuse things.

Good luck with your paper.

Yes abortion should be legal.

It's not for me to decide what other women do with their bodies. Access to birth control and safe, legal abortion are two of the greatest contributors to female equality.

There's actually a very low incidence of danger to the woman from abortion.

If you are in fact writing a paper I hope you're going to do some actual research and use spell/grammar check.

If you're writing a paper, you should work on your writing skills, spelling, and grammar, first of all.

All of the dangers you mention about abortion will be tenfold if it is made illegal. Making it illegal will not stop women from getting abortions. It will only force them to go to doctors and others who will give them abortions. They will not be in sterile environments, they will not be using proper tools, and the person performing the abortion will most likely not be qualified.

Of course, abortion shouldn't be used as birth control, but ultimately it is the woman's body and she should be able to choose what she does with it.

I don't agree with abortion, but I would be afraid if it was made illegal b/c of all the illegal abortions that would happen b/c of it. Lots of desperate moms to be would attempt to abort the baby theirself and a lot would probably die doing so. As for rape, I still would rather put the baby up for adoption if it happened to me, it's not the babies fault and he/she deserves a chance to live

I'm pretty sure that most schools won't even let you write about this.

It kinda goes along with religion, sexuality, all that kind of stuff....

You might want to check with your teacher before continuing with this assignment. Even in a creative writing class I took in highschool, where your writing is your art, we were advised not to write about those things.

I do believe that abortion is wrong, because they did the crime, they can do the time. But I also believe that if a woman was raped (and I mean like full on raped, not statutory) and she can never find love for that child because of the nature of conception, I wouldn't be against it. I believe that it is the mother's choice, but it's also not fair to have more than one abortion just because you don't practice safe sex.

illegal abortions are way more dangerous than legal ones. There will always be people who will get abortions, no matter the legality. Why not keep abortion safe and legal for those who choose it??
