First get 10% of $40. That would be 40/10 which is $4
So if 10% is $4, 30% of 40 is 4*3. That is $12. So 30% of 40 is $12.
NOW, you want 30% OFF $40. So, you do $40-$12= $28
It ends up $28.
Also, you could do the same thing up top except with 70% of $40, and not do the second part. That is easier for some.
Hope it helped!

Your question is what is 30% OFFFFF of 40 dollars…..
Here is a quick and easy way to figure out any percent of something……Like a 30% off at a store you like and you want to know how much it will cost you.
Multiply 40 by 70%=28.00 basically just 40 * 70
Where did the 70 come from?
Always subtract 100% then multiply that----- examples below
15% off----multiply the price by 85% and that is your total cost 100-15=85
20% off----multiply the price by 80% and that is your total cost 100-20=80
25% off----multiply the price by 75% and that is your total cost 100-25=75
30% off----multiply the price by 70% and that is your total cost 100-30=70
35% off----multiply the price by 65% and that is your total cost 100-35=65
Etc……
That is easier than finding how much is discounted then subtracting.

This is how you find 30% of $40.00
$40.00 * 0.30 = $12.00
To find what is left, you just subtract
$40.00 - $12.00 = $28.00
There are other ways to solve this problem
To find the percent that is left, you start with one and subtract the percent being taken away
1.00 - 0.30 = 0.70 or (100% - 30% = 70%)
70% of $40 is
0.70 * $40.00 = $28.00
