Well, I really want my little sister to be able to the Sims 2 without it working crappy. Now, the game can play on my computer, but the save times take forever aswell as the load times, and sometimes it freezes up so I was wondering if there's anything I should upgrade on my computer that would be better for the game.

Here's my computer's stuff (I'm not a tech person so here's what it says):
System: Microsoft windows XP, Home edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2.
Computer: Intel(R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz
2.66 GHz, 512 MB of RAM
Video card: NVIDIA Geforce FX 5200

System requirements for The Sims 2:
1300 MHz processor
256 MB RAM
Windows(R) Vista, Windows XP, Windows ME,
8x or faster CD/DVD drive
A T&L-capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM.
Supported video cards:
NVIDIA GeForce series GeForce2 GTS and better (GeForce 6200 or greater required for Vista)

The save and load times have more to do with your Ram than your graphics card ... depending on whether you have 1 stick of 512 or 2 sticks of 256 will determine the best upgrade option for you ... download Belarc (google it for download site) run it and that will tell you your exact configuration ... you may just need to pop another 512 stick of ram in and that's fairly cheap right now

It's all about RAM (Random Access Memory!
Find out what kind RAM ports you have. http://crucial.com/ This site will let you know. Then get the biggest amount of bytes you can. You may need to replace you 512 MB chip will a Gigabyte chip, or you just might be able to get another 512 megabyter! With a GB of memory you'll have enough for the The Sims 2 not to lag, and it will improve the loading time. In any case your computer should be fine to handle The Sims 2 with your clock speed being 2.66 GHz, and your video card is nice too.
Hope this helps, and your sis has some happy gaming!
Peace

I would consider buying 1 more GB of RAM. What's your computer brand and model? (It'll help me determine what type of RAM you need.) Ram will probably cost you around $60-70, and it is simple to install.

My Graphics card is a similar model; however I haven't played The Sims; but I do know that it should be able to handle it. Your processor is well capable, as is your operating system.

When you play, make sure you shut off all background programs. This mean Limewire, AIM, etc, and anything visible in the taskbar, for performance. It may be a possibility you have a trojan or something. I would suggest you download Windows Defender and perform a full system search.

your computer specs is great for for the game, its pretty much double the requirements for the game. a couple reasons why it could be runing like that (load times and save times and freezing) is that you havent defragged your system in a while. i would recommend using Auslogics disc defrag as it works much faster that XP's diskeeperlite version and it seems to be more effective. you can google it and find the free trial.

also, to me 512mb RAM is small, but thats cuz i'm running Vista and need at least 2GB to run everything that i want. but you cant get wrong with upgrading your RAM. check www.newegg.com for another 512mb RAM chip, they're usually under 20 or 15 bcks.

I would get the graphics card updated because games are extremely dependent on the graphics card processor
