go into device manager and uninstall your cd/dvd drive and reboot ... windows should auto recognise it and reload the drivers ... if it doesn't probably means the drive has died ... go buy a new one ... they're cheap and easy to install

On XP, go to Start, Control Panel, System,Hardware,Device Manager. Scroll down to Drives. On the CD/DVD Drive sysmbol there might be an exclamation point or Question mark.
Right click it, delete.
ReStart your computer. It should now recognize and reinstall the drivers. If not, in system obtain the specific CD/DVD drive nomenclature and model; go to the Mfg webSite and download drivers for the specific Drive you have.
