Oh come on ... a cheap pet? What like a stick insect? Can't you think of anything nicer? Moms in their fifties are still very much feminine and would appreciate perfume, toiletries, a nice dressing gown, slippers, .... or how about books, favourite music, ornaments that are collectable ..... chocolates ...... or just go the mall and simply spend an hour looking round ... you will be amazed how the shops stick gift suggestions right in front of you! BUt a cheap pet?? OMG!

Sorry!!! Chea Pet ... guess that's something from the USA?

Stay away from the chea pet. Mom's in their 50's like things that all moms like. A picture of the two of you, jewlery, dvds, cds, a good book, for you to make dinner once in a while, breakfast in bed, time spent with you.

Merry Christmas!

As a Mom of 65+, a chia pet is too impersonal. I would prefer something that had taken some effort such as something displays the skill of the donor e.g. handmade item or an elaborate meal cooked and served by the donor. Alternatively a trip to the theatre or a day in a nearby large city

No chia pets. Moms don't want anything they have to take care of. Also no appliances. A pretty necklace or earrings or any kind of jewelry is always nice. My daughter gave me a locket for my birthday last month that had a rose carved in it and it said "Mom" on it also. I loved it. If she wears perfume that is good too. Or a nice headscarf or warm muffler if you're in a cold spot or a pretty umbrella if it rains a lot where you are.

To Dixie Normus -- 50 is NOT elderly. I'm 62 and I'm still not elderly either!!!!!

... please think again.

i don't mean to be rude, but, you should get a pet "only because you want to get a pet, and you know you will take good care of your pet for the rest of its life".

Besides, having a pet is a heavy responsibility, it takes time, effort and healthy body to live with them, you really should ask the gift receiver, whether or not if they want a pet in the first place.

it's wrong to get a pet "only as a gift", 'cause most of them end up suffered and died, or, even worse, become stray animals that suffer the rest of their lives.

Please try some thing else, like nutritional products, health food, organic cosmetic items and books, etc. i am sure they make much better gift, as they are useful, cost-effective, easy to use and trouble-free. :)

Cheers, and wish you and your family Merry X-Mass. :)

I know it's the thought that counts, but please don't give your mom a Chia Pet. If you can't afford a lot, make her something. I guarantee she'll appreciate it. How about buying one of those inexpensive wooden picture frames from a craft store and painting it? Then you can put a picture of the two of you inside. What are her hobbies? Think about that. She may like a book or a nice robe as well. Good luck.

Better would be to ask her what she wants for Christmas, then get her what she wants.

A woman in her 50's doesn't want much.

If you give her a chia pet, it will either sit around and gather dust or be thrown out.

Chia Pets are kind of lame to be honest.

Why don't you get her something useful or amusing. Maybe a digital photo ornament, a color changing candle, perfume, handbag, picture holders...
