Answers to favorite lyrics, favorite group, favorite food in no way ever merits thumbs down as long as it is obviously seriously answered. There's no such thing as a controversial answer to some questions. I keep seeing people piling on simple answers to no-right-or-wrong questions. What is wrong with these people?

Instead of giving a thumbs-down for an inappropriate or off-topic answer, it seems that a lot of people give thumbs-down for things that go against their personal preference. That's why it shows up most in questions about theology and "favorite" anything.
It's a passive-agressive action.

I think they have nothing better to do than to go through answers and give everyone a thumbs down. Someone once gave me a thumbs down for answering "What makes you smile". Hey, if that makes them happy, whatever! I will probably get a million thumbs down for this answer too, but oh well. :)

Some are more passionate about a subject & others are not. I might find a topic trivial, others don't. It's all relative.
