It seems like all I want to do is sleep.
My dad gets p!ssed off whenever he finds me asleep. He wakes me up, tells me I'm not normal, and storms off. Causing me to get angry and just wanting to go to sleep even more. My mom just goes on my dad's side most of the time.
I have depression, and am taking Zoloft. I don't know if that has
anything to do with it because I was always very sleepy during
the day before I went on it. My dad also says I don't eat right,
but I wiegh more than I am supposed to for my hieght. He just doesn't think I'm eating right because "right" to him is eating a pound of steak, beans, corn, potatoes, chips, and a soda for
dinner.... seeing that he wieghs around 250 pounds and isn't even 6'0.
I just wanto sleep. I hate sports, I don't like spending time with my family... and I can't smoke with my friends anymore because my dad is starting to get suspicous. Spending time with my friends is the only thing I like to do other than sleep. (movies, mall..ect)

I can't really control it... I'll sit down in a chair and 10 minutes later I'll be falling asleep. Sometimes I go to bed at 2:00 AM in the morning on a school night... and then other times I'll go to bed at 9:00PM and STILL be tired and falling asleep in school.
The issue doesn't really seem like it's what time I go to sleep... but idk. I'm not a doctor.

Fatigue is a symptom of many different illnesses. Some can be life-threatening and others not. So, it is important that you speak with your doctor and possibly do some blood tests to find out why you are so tired. It is not normal for someone to want to sleep all the time. If you find out what is wrong then you can treat it, and you won't need to sleep all the time.

i have been on zoloft since i was 9. it makes me very sleepy - i used to get home from school around noon and then i would sleep until 4 pm or later! and then go to bed at 11! and still be tired when i woke up! its a totally regular side effect of the medicine - my parents didn't believe me either and thought i wasn't normal, until my mom needed to go on an antidepressant - she was prescribed zoloft and finally felt what i was feeling all this time. she's off the medicine now but i don't get any more crap for it. as for your appetite, its apparent that you and your father have different ideas of what "right" is. i'm only 5'1 and i weigh a hundred pounds. i'm totally healthy. i would suggest that you and your parents sit down with your family doctor, or the doctor that prescribed you zoloft - that way they can see that your sleeping habits are med-related. also discuss eating habits - the doctor may shed some light on the subject so you and your family can be more on the same page.
i never played sports. from your description, i am assuming (please correct me if i am wrong) that you are a teenager? its normal for teenagers to want to spend time away from their families! its normal to want to be with your friends all the time. i was in the same exact situation all through high school. i slept and hung out with my friends and thats it. i'm not going to slap you on the wrist for smoking - you've seen the commercials and you know the consequences. you're a big kid.
also, you dont have a brain tumor.
what you're feeling is totally, 100% normal for being on zoloft. its almost like reading a description of my own life! i would suggest getting into something active though - it will make your sleep more rewarding and restful and you wont be so tired during the day. i tried yoga. it helped me mentally and also was a great workout which made me get good sleep at night. it put me in a good mood. i know its hard to get motivated while on the medicine and especially while depressed, but once you try something, you might stick with it! even taking a walk after school or something would be good.
i hope this all helped. feel free to contact me anytime!

Hello darling!
We are 2 of a kind! I`ve been suffering from severe depression for 12 years now. I`m on something they call Seroxat (in Norway, the active ingredinet is Paroxetin.)As I understand it, this is simmirlar, but not excatly like Zoloft.
The first few years of my sickness I just wanted to sleep most of the time, because I had no energy or will to do anything (I was practically a zombie, nothing mattered)
Don`t let your parents tell you off! They obviously have no understanding for your condition!
But I`m curious about one thing: When you`re talking about "smoking", what do u mean..? Is this only a nicotine thing, or what...? If ur talking pot or the like, I certainly would advise against it ( It has a VERY negative effect on the parts of the brain that is supposed to make us get better)
On the other hand, if ur smoking is only a question of NICOTINE, I know by experience (mine and many others) that its good for the brain (concentration, relaxation and may other things). Not so good for the rest of the body, though, but we have to choose...
I really think u should have a serious talk with ur doctor to make him explain ur situation to ur parents. If he\she won`t , get a second (or even third opinion)!
Good luck to u! I still sleep to much!!!!!

And because you aren't a doctor, you need to see one AGAIN. Find out if your Zoloft is the right dosage, if you are adjusting correctly to that dosage, and if you can also talk with a talk therapist. You are in depression and you will want to sleep alot. Your home life doesn't sound too appealing to a person and that could be affecting everything else about you.
If you AREN'T eating right, not according to dad, but to yourself, do watch the diet. Not that it makes you sleep, but it can affect your body and mess up your meds. Have a plan for sleeping, follow it to the T. Go to bed at the same time, get up at the same time.
I suspect your anger at your parents, your feeling controlled and bossed around, etc. are at the bottom of this. Sleep is an escape and you are wanting to escape. Hating sports is OK, but we must move our body. One good way to help with depression is to walk or move around. Get a pedometer and see that you walk at least 10,000 steps a day. If you aren't, you will sink further into depression.
Please get help, from a counselor at school or on your folks health plan. If this will make your dad tease or holler at you, use the doctor and a school counselor. Your privacy matters. But do get help. There is a whole life out there.

Well, the depression would do it, as could the Zoloft. If you're in lousy general health (smoking, tsk tsk) that'd do it too. Likewise if you're on a restrictive diet because you feel overweight.
Since it seems like you're living with your parents, I suspect you are a teen? The thing that leaps first to mind is that you aren't getting enough sleep during regular sleep hours. Teens need more sleep than adults, and if you're out late every night you build up a sleep deficit that you have to work off during the day. It can be difficult for people with night owl personalities to cope with their daytime obligations, but it is what it is.
It's worth talking to a doctor about any of these things. A variation on your medicine might help, but a good general physical is probably the place to start.

I would tell your doctor... whoever prescribed the Zoloft... it might not be the medicine or the dose for you. There could also be other reasons like being anemic. Low iron could make you very tired and if you aren't getting enough from your diet, you might need a supplement. Also, it would be a good idea to have your thyroid checked... that could explain your weight and your tiredness. There could be a number of reasons... chat with your mom and/or the doctor.
Good Luck
and try not to smoke ;)

Go see your doctor again and tell him what's happening, both physically and emotionally, it could just be a side affect of Zoloft, it could be something else (anaemia, chronic fatigue) Perhaps ask him/her for some information about depression and Zoloft for your parents to read too, it's quite obvious they don't understand it at all.
Also, I know it's so easy for me to say, but getting out and exercising often help with living with depression. Giving up smoking will also help.
Good luck!

Honey, I have depression and I take Zoloft too. Its just a side affect. If you see a therapist just ask them to talk to your Dad or Mom? its just a side affect and they have to realize that. I take 200mg. maybe your on a too high of a dose? or they just shot you up too high straight from the gecko

Talk to your parents and tell them what you just wrote about why you sleep so much. If they're supportive they should understand your depressed. but i will tell you sleeping won't help anything, it will make you more depressed.
