Well, if you are for real, it sure was a damn fool move and the incident should be reported to his immediate supervisor ASAP so he can be psycologically evaluated by the department Shrink. IF it actually happened.

At a minimum suspended, if not terminated.
I am not sure about you, however anybody who display mental instability should not have a firearm, let alone be in an armed position of authority. The deputy should not be allowed to work until he or she receives psychiatric treatment and receives an impeccable evaluation.

he should not have access to firearms for his safety and the safety of the other police staff near him. he needs some help to get past his emotional issues . if he can't get past the issues, then perhaps the police need to package him out.

Normally thoughts of suicide would put him on administrative leave, not fired, until he was ruled incompetent permanently to hold the position.
