I have never tried it. I love custard though.
Maybe we all could come over and try it at your house if you would be so kind to make some. Thanks in advance.

Hey Shan...cute new avatar.
Although North Americans don't normally eat "Christmas Pudding", we do have steamed cakes that can be thought of as equivalent...the most memorable being Jamaican Rum Cake. If you ever have the chance to try it, you really should. And THAT is best eaten with a hot rum/butter glaze, so I would think the same would hold for your Christmas pudding (brandy butter).

Plum pudding -- my grandmother used to serve it, but she used Cross & Blackwell's. Yummy brandy sauce. (She was of English descent, from Barbados.)
Mostly we have pie. And cookies -- cookies are a BIG Christmas tradition here. "I haven't done my baking yet," usually means cookies.
We're having a cookie exchange after church Sunday: Everyone brings a couple of dozen cookies and takes home the same number -- but from what the other people brought.

Also fruitcake, but not "Christmas cake" the way it's done in England, with marzipan and icing and all -- just fruitcake, with lots of booze poured over it in the time leading up to Christmas.

And hard sauce to go with the fruitcake -- that's just sugar and butter and rum or brandy or something, like a very stiff, thick, icing.
And, depending on where you are, there are other treats. In the Cleveland area, potica is frequent, because of all the Eastern Europeans.

Our family (Cleveland, Ohio), likes to have buckeyes -- which are really an inedible variety of horse chestnut. The sweet pretend buckeyes have a peanut butter and sugar filling with a chocolate coating -- and a bit of the peanut butter left showing, like the round spot on a real buckeye.

I don't think mince pies or Christmas pudding are very common here in the United States (though I have seen a small amount of mince pie filling available in the grocery store.) Personally, I've never eaten either one, and I don't know anyone personally who has. The same goes for figgy pudding. I do drink eggnog, though! It's delicious to me.

Generally speaking the true Christmas pud is not a favorite here! It can be bought over the Internet, and my friend who is also a Brit (like me) gets several every year. She puts brandy butter on hers. It is good. But it would be better if she made one from scratch! CJ

Hi Shan-another new look for you! We do have Christmas pudding since my wife's family is British. We also have some delicacies from her family known as Maids of Honor and fruited cupcakes. I don't know of anyone else in my area that has Christmas pudding, however. But, I've got some local delicacies for you--have you ever had posole or biscochitos? Have you seen the farolitos of Christmas or the :La Posada?

No. Maybe in New England. I have heard of the pudding in UK and was tempted to order from a catalog. If I were to try it and I would want the custard. Mmmm sounds delicious.

Yes. My grandparents taught my mother how to make it. I have never tried to but I like the brandy sauce topping. Have not had this in years. We call it Plum Pudding.
