Ok, so I realize that you cant base a state on one city alone, but I have been in LA for a year, and I really am having a hard time coming up with good qualities of this city. I thought I was alone, until I meet people from the east coast, and they feel the same way. Maybe I am missing something, but after moving from Boston, I realized that LA fails to compare. Dont worry, I am moving back east. LA isnt a huge disapointment, because its exactly what I expected in terms of the quality of life, or lack their of. Thanks

Great replies. I truly gave it a chance, but am very observant of human nature, and for the most part, LA is nothing but poseurs and parasites who pride themselves on having " a ton of friends in LA" having a ton of friends in LA is like having a mild cold, while already having full blown aids!

LA is the moral cesspool of America. it draws egotistical people to it because of the weather, the movie industry (inexplicably still there) and movie stars. Most people who seek fame for one thing or another go there. Boston is a real city with history.

There is a lot more to CA than LA. San Francisco is more like Boston than LA is. San Diego probably has the most Boston transplants per capita than any other place in CA and for the most part the people from Boston are cool; I've met so many damn people from the Boston region here in San diego. Although I cannot stand all the Red Sox nation crap, it's about as annoying as Yankees fans now.

LA isn't the easiest city to love and it's as only good as you make of it.

edit: I've thought about this before and this is the problem I see with the people in LA: LA has a certain image and a certain industry that attracts certain types of people. It attracts all the wannabe's who want to be famous or to be cool or in that Hollywood "in" crowd. You get people from little po dunk towns across the country that were the shiit back where they grew up then move to LA with that same stuck up attitude thinking they are someone special. You get transplants that think they are so "cool" now b/c they are in LA and CA. I've met several transplants that try to impress me with this and that and it's just pathetic. Most natives are not like that at all and are very real, down to earth people. And there is a similar type thing in SF. SF has a certain image and stereotypes that attracts all the super wannbe liberals, hippies, ect... Eventhough most SF natives are pretty moderate, the city is filled with far left wing liberals b/c of all the transplants attracted there for what they think SF is like, basically people who perpetuate the SF stereotypes.

The problem is with the media and how they like to portray this state and the stereotypes that attract some of the worst kinds of people. I love the diversity here but I cannot stand the people who move here for those LA and SF stereotypes and think they are so cool now they that live in CA.

Not all transplants are like this though b/c you dont seem like that and I've met many great people from all over the place here. But the most vocal ones and the ones that people tend to notice can be like what I describe a lot.

anyways, those are just my thoughts on why SOME of the people in LA and CA in general are lame. And this is coming from a CA native.

Boston, the Italians and the Irish...it's full of life and people are friendlier and more family oriented.

People are funnier in Boston....Los Angeles, was different to me and it seemed people were always on the go and did not have quality time to spend???

Boston, too..it's the only City I know where you can see an elderly person scream "For 20 bucks, I can have BOTH your legs taken off."

I have only visited both cities, but after only two weeks, it was obvious that Boston had much more to offer for intelligent, adventurous people!
