So, Al gore FINALY made his house eco-friendly.... "Earth in the balance" has been out for what 8 years? Did it really take that long for him to make the changes needed? And it is strange how it coincided with a report showing his home being one of the largest users of electricity and gas in his state.

So what took Gore so long to practice what he preaches?

And notice at the end the people praising him are the people that have Gore on their board of directors...

Very…. Convenient...

BTW my problem is not that he wants to "protect" the enviroment. My problem is he preaches and accuses others of destroying the planet while he himself causes "damage".

He was caught with his hands in the cookie jar, raping mother earth per se. Fixing his mansion is just reparations. Nevertheless is home still requires 10 times the energy of the average one. I wonder when he'll add solar cells to his private jet.

Gosh, I wish someone more competent in the world was in charge of Global Warming!

It is good that Al Gore is taking the USA to task for its "do nothing" environmental policy. We need something more effective than getting in the way of mining companies.

Aesthetic environmentalism just will not make it in our era which has natural global warming plus what industrialism and motor vehicles are pouring into the atmosphere.

Like many others who aren't 'born environmentalists', Gore probably went through years of a learning process where he gradually realized how making his own home 'eco-friendly' was an important step. We all learn at our own pace, and will only make our own personal contributions toward more 'eco-friendly' environments only as we become better educated, more involved and more personally aware of what we can do - or should do - to help improve our planet.
I suspect you're more critical of Gore because you disagree with his politics rather than because you don't believe he acted quickly enough to enhance his own home. Gore has created immense awareness of perhaps the most critical issue ever to face our world, and his role in his mission is certainly more important than any mere U.S. President might do.
I guess you could compare it to a cigarette smoker who knows smoking is bad for him, tells his kids not to smoke, and - then - finally manages to break the habit himself.
Al Gore is one of the most noble, genuine inhabitants on the face of this grimy, polluted, poisoned Earth. He deserves our respect, our admiration and our attention.
But, of course, those of us who don't want to give up our gas-guzzling Hummers and SUVs; don't want to turn down the thermostat; refuse to REuse, REduce and REcycle; or prefer not to have to make any sacrifices in order to make a better world for our great-grandchildren, will always attack messengers like Gore instead of listening to the message he brings loudly and clearly to the stage. -RKO- 12/13/07

He had to fight the state legislation to be ALLOWED to do it, first...

They fought him on every detail... especially the solar panels... they HATED it...

There are two sides to every issue and if you've ever tried to do something good for your community then you know there are people who want to get in your way.

I know someone who was recently forced to remove the compost bin from their back yard because it was deemed a "health hazard"....

By the way, I praise his efforts and he's not on MY board of directors... I don't even have any such board... I'm just a guy.

He is trying to compensate for his miserable defeat 8 years ago. So it was determined he needed to campaign for something worthwhile.
So ending world hunger pitted him against Mother Tereasa...yeah, no chance of winning there.
World Peace pitted him against Ghandi.
Terrorism is to hot but the world is not just yet.
So there you go...the environment.

Come on, he took up this cause after losing the presidential race.... It wasn't like he was born an environmentalist... I'm no fan of the tax-and-spend Dems, but I admire what he's done for increasing our awareness about the environment... jeez.
