...director Ronny Yu approached "Freddy vs. Jason", in much the same way that he took on "Bride of Chucky"; having not seen any of the "Friday the 13th" or "Elm Street" films, but still maintaining a familiarity with the iconic horror characters associated with these franchises, he wanted to take a fresh approach, thus appealing to new fans, as well as satisfying the die-hard fans of Freddy and Jason. Having some influence with the casting, director Yu reportedly had a certain vision, with regards to what he felt Jason should look like, as well as how he should move; he was made aware of the fact that Kane Hodder had originated his portrayal of Jason, over at Paramount, with "The New Blood" and "Jason Takes Manhattan, and subsequently carried the role over to New Line Cinema, when they took over and continued the series with "Jason Goes to Hell" and "Jason X". However, director Yu apparently felt that Kane did not fit the bill, with regards to his unique vision of Jason, and as a result, the role went to the unknown Ken Kirzinger...
...having myself had the unique pleasure of seeing and meeting Kane Hodder at several of the Fangoria Weekend of Horror Conventions, over the past three years, he had repeatedly expressed his frustration and disdainment over having been passed over on "Freddy vs. Jason", on a role which he had virtually made his own; I can only hope that if there are any more "Friday the 13th" films, in the future, the filmmakers will see fit to right a great wrong, and welcome Kane back into the fold, once and for all times...
...in the meantime, ol' Kane has been quite busy working on and promoting the new killer on the block, with his outrageously dynamic performance as backwoods psychopath Victor Crawley, in director Adam Green's nostalgic throwback to the old-school slasher film era of the late 70's & early 80's, entitled "Hatchet", which is due for an unrated and uncut DVD release next Tuesday...

He wanted to but it was some sort of contractual thing that kept him out. Something about since the movie was made by another studio and he had a contract with another he could not star in it. I wished they would have found some way around it because it just isnt Jason without Kane. That guy didn't even move the same way Kane does. You are right it sucks. New Line almost made Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash but Sam Rami pulled out of it at the last minute, but it is a six part comic version out now. If (I don't think they ever will) they make the movie based off the comic book, pray that they will let Kane play Jason again.

Bad casting. All I know is, I didn't find him all that menacing in Freddy vs Jason. When Kane played him, he was brutal and huge. They made Jason's head so small looking in the latest installment. I personally wouldn't care who played Jason as long as he looks right (and not totally different like he was in the last one). Can't really complain though, atleast Freddy is continuously played by the same actor, now that's dedication!
