I'm looking for a private teacher to start lessons with, and I'd like to compete in all ten dances eventually in the international category. Which teacher/studio is friendly and affordable, and produces great results?

New York is where many top competing professional dancers chose to re-locate for work and training. So I don't know if you can find who's the best very easily because there are some many fantastic professionals in New York. Go to ballroomdancers.com, do a studio search for New York and look for famous names. But some of them charge like $300 an hour and their students are mostly professional dancers themselves.
I like Wendi Davies very much. She teaches at Ballroom on Fith. Her students do really well in competitions all the way up to Championship level. But you should definitely look around. http://www.ndca.org will allow you to search and contact teachers directly.
I recommend attending an amateur competition in New York. Manhatten Amateur Classis Championships is coming up soon. I highly recommend attending. You can just ask people. You can ask those who's dancing you like.
