Most times heart murmurs are completely innocent and often fix themselves over time. Given the fact that you have had someone else in your family die of such a condition, I would make an appt with your pediatrician as soon as you can . Your doctor will be understanding since you have just gone through such a horrible experience. Peace of mind is priceless.

Good luck and I am so sorry to hear about your neice.

Hi, My little sister has a heart murmur. Did the doctor tell you what kind of murmur it is. Is it large, does she require surgery? Is it on top or bottom? I think you need to do a ton of research and talk to your doctor a lot. It will help ease your mind when you are armed with information. Find out everything possible about your daughters condition. And do everything to make it better, if she needs surgery which isn't always the case then research the surgery. My sisters healed up on it's own by the time she was 12. Keep her in your room so you can hear her and try not to worry to much. Once you understand the problem you will be better equipped to handle it.

I am past 50 and I was born with a heart murmur. It depends on where and what the cause is. In my case a hole was in the chamber wall between the chambers. And has never grew over. And I was active in sports and such. However, you need clear advice from your doctor

Go and have her checked. From what my doc has told me that all infants have heart murmurs and they do grow out of them. Just have her checked. I am sure if your doc thinks something is wrong then they will tell you but just be safe call the doc and talk to her or him.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I wouldn't worry though. I'm sure there were exasperating circumstances. Heart murmurs are pretty common.
Talk to your Dr. Tell them what happened. Maybe get one of those sleep apnea monitors to ease your mind.
Good luck!
