The only thing I'd be using the card for would really be travel related. Flights, hotels, ferry rides, train rides, etc.

You can use a debit card to buy an airline or train ticket, pay for a hotel bill, or pay for a car rental. However, you'll can still have problems if you don't have a credit card.

Hotels place a hold against customers' credit cards to ensure that they can't skip out without paying for room service or restaurant and bar tabs. If you don't have a credit card, you may be required to pay a substantial deposit. You can pay your final bill with a debit card even if you present a credit card at check-in.

Car rental companies also place a hold on your credit card to ensure that the car is returned and not damaged. Some companies won't rent to you without one. Others will require a substantial deposit. Again, you can pay your final bill with a debit card even if you present a credit card when you pick up the car.

It's possible to travel without a credit card, but it's not always easy.

A DEBIT card works EXACTLY like a credit card with one exception. The funds are taken directly from your checking account and you never get a bill.
