Is marriage a safety net from STDs and HIV?

Nope! Married people are still able to run around and catch disease (if they are unfaithful). And they can bring those diseases back home. The only "safety net" is not having sex at all.

It can be. One get tested before you get married no matter if your partner says they have not ever had sex before. STD's and HIV can be caught without having sex, (drugs and oral are just examples) Second marriage has to be based on trust and love. If one cheats then the net can be broken.

Only in honest, faithful marriages. I have read a lot of stories about people getting STDs from spouses.

Nope.

Some STDs don't raise their ugly little head for years. HIV and Herpes are good examples of that. They could have been contracted when single, and not become known for a long time.

Clymidia can actually be gotten from sources other than sexual contact.

What a horrible way to label a marriage. My marriage doesn't need a label. So no, it is not a safety net for anything, let alone STDs.

Good luck.

the only way that marriage is a safety net is if they are faithful which sometimes doesn't happen

Kind of a silly question-no it is not if one of you is unfaithful or already have an STD or HIV

Sure. AS long as your spouse is Faithful !! And as long as your spouse didn't "already have" any STD's (with you knowing of course !) Before you married.

No, either one of you could have had an STD before marriage.

There is also infidelity and intravenous drug usage that can transmit diseases.
