Whenever I go to fast food restaurants, the worker ringing me up, asks "For here or to go?", I always reply "For here". Most of them bag it to go. Why does that happen? Is it because I am ordering alone? The order ticket on the tape should read "Dine in" or soemthing to that effect if that is what I said. I always have them take it out and put it on a tray or plates, depending on where I dine at. A couple of times, the worker left it bagged that thinking I wouldn't know the difference or would care. Does this ever happen to anyone else? I was just curious.

Fast food workers are not the shining top of the intellectual ladder, dear.

that only happens to me when i go to mcdonalds. however, wendys or burger king, they got me down pat. sometimes i dont like mcdonalds customer service, but i used to go there regular (before i started watching what i eat) i kinda new the manager and every time i had a problem with a customer or something, he came to the rescue like TA DA! haha..
i work at wendys, and we always read the sign thing either saying "to go" or "here". actually today, i bagged one that was for dine in and that was because the order before it and after it was to go. so that was my bad.
oh, and if we get a bus, if they are going to eat here, we bag it. because of all those trays! we dont want to wash. and its faster and easier to just bag it. my general manager learned that one when they had gotten four busses at the same time!
EDIT: if you want a tray, then just ask for one and make them feel stupid. be like "this was for here" and they'll feel stupid for putting it in a bag. thats what the guy said to me today, and i did feel stupid. haha

Yea the same thing has definitely happened to me in the past. I just think that Ameirca tends to be a very wasteful nation as a whole and no one takes any interest in the amount of garbage we throw out. Also, it pisses me off when people ask for my paradigm and completely ignore it.

I like to believe that the managers tell them to instead of calling all the workers stupid... I'm still waiting for the courage to go to Dunkin Donuts and ask for a coffee to go but I'm afraid that would really throw them.

Some places just don't use trays and only bags. Chick-fil-a where I live near Indianapolis is that way.

Hmm, good question. They don't always bag it, such as Chik-Fil-A they'll just put it on a tray. But if they do bag it, it might be a store rule or something?! Next time that happens, you should ask them! :]

By bagging it there's more room on your tray, also there might be a chance that you can't finish it all and it's easier to carry home in a bag.

they ask and answer that question so many times they can't think straight any more
If your order is hot and correct, laugh to yourself and just forget it. If that's the worse thing that happens in your day, you are one lucky person.
Find something else to complain about.

This is your dilemma for the day? All day long for up to 6 or 7 hours they hear for here or to go...... Common is it really that frusterating for you. Bagging it to go is an alternative. If you do not remember would this guest mind if I put it in a bag.
Get over it. You must be brilliant in your job...

So that you can more easily take it to a table. Packaging to go might be different, such as including a holder for cups.
