Hematite absorbs negativity. Sometimes it will break or crack because it absorbs too much.
I use pretty much all the stones. Right now I am using Labradorite and Ametrine....I also have a blue goldstone under my pillow for good dreams.
BTW, for anyone who is wondering: No stones are bad. Some might not vibe with you but just like people, they have personalities and you don't get along with everyone but it doesn't make them or you bad. ;)

No, in that the ring itself is not a magnet there is no problem. (It would be like placing a pin or paperclip close to your electronics.) However, hematite is not magnetic. What you probably have is a ring that is a mixture of hematite and magnetite, both iron oxides and often found together, but only the magnetite is magnetic.

Hematite is a naturally occuring stone. It is soft enough to be carved into many things. It's quite common. I hope your ring wasn't more than $10.

Some people use it for protection and centering. If you do, make sure you allow it to renew itself once in a while. Leaving it outside at full moon time will do that.
And I agree with Labgrrl, it's extremely common so I hope you didn't pay too much for it.

A lot of aces (asexuals) use it as their black ring to help raise awareness for asexuality. It is worn on the right middle finger.
