My husbands ex wife says if my hubby pays her a lump sum of $1,500 ( which is lower than what is owed ) she will inform the courts she no longer wishes to collect the arrears my ex owes her for child support. My hubbys son is 19 now so it is only the arrears my hubby is paying off. Can she do this? My step son is happy for her to do this as he does not live with her and hasnt for some time.

Yes she can...contact your division of family services and find out the paperwork that needs to be filed. they generally have a form for her to "forgive" the arrears.

I really hope this is a joke, and you are not serious??? Are you kidding? If not, wake up/relity call check. Your frivilous WANTS do NOT over ride your husbands childrens NEEDS. His responsibility as a parent never ends, and shouldnt. And you, for marrying him, are now a part of making mature sacrifices, so that he can fullfill his responsibilities. If theres not enough money for your "pampering"....you can get a job! GASP! Grow up, and realize his responsibiltiy for his children ( which you knew of before marriage) are the most important priority...especially over your prima dona ways. You really should be ashamed/ embarrassed on how shallow and selfish you sound. Again, I hope this is a crank question, Cause if not.....you are a bowl of stupid. Good luck!

She can unless the government support the boy for any amount of time. If the government did then your husband owes the government money and the government charges interest on what it is owed as well. Whether the boy is happy for her to end the payments is a moot point since it was his mother who was supporting him even though his father wasn't and the money is owed to HER not him.

Yes, you can petition the court to stop child support payments. If both parties agree it's as simple as signing a decree. Been there. Done that. BTW $10 fee.

She can, but the question is WILL SHE? Make sure the agreement is in writing before your husband gives her a dime. That way, if she changes her mind later, he will be legally protected.

I know someone online that is doing this, but shes getting a lot more than 1500 bucks. If the state is involved at all, she cant do it. And who cares if the boy wants to live with her? It's not pivotal to your question, and he is an adult anyway.
