I'm not a parent but I have a theory on this situation. I think it might be possible that these kids have a lot of creativity and their inappropriate behavior might come from a lack of a place to be creative in. If one son likes drama so much, maybe he'd like being in a drama class too. If the other one likes lying and arguing, maybe he should be in a debate club or train to be a lawyer (just a suggestion.) Getting them involved in such things may channel their energy so they have something to work on rather than argue with you. It might be a good idea to ask them what kind of clubs they'd like to be enrolled in. Maybe one would like to take a martial arts class and the other would like to play for the football team. If you start listening more to their wants and needs and don't react to their behaviors, you may find it easier to connect with them.

I am a single mother of one 13 year old girl. She is a honor student but act out at home. She lies and steals from me. I contacted the local sheriff's department and spoke with a officer about her behavior. I took her to the sheriff's office and he spoke with her and told her that what she did was illegal. He explained all the consequences to her of her actions. He then walked her over to the local jail house. My daughter listened to the female prisoners. They did not have nice things to say to her. Since then, she has been a model student/daughter.

This is a tough one, I feel for your situation. Stay strong! And I know it seems endless. Can they go with their dad, or is that not a possibility? The 14 YO sounds like he might be ADD, they are smart and great at fooling people. If there are any privileges you can take away, please do. Ground them as much as you can; e.g., no dates for the 15 yo or school events unless he behaves.

One on one counseling might not be good for your family... as you say, he had the counselor fooled. Perhaps "family" counseling is the way to go.... Best of luck to you.
