My and partner an I are wondering if we should get married beofre the New Year for tax reasons. Will it help us or hurt us when it comes to taxes? No kids yet, we make around the same income. We do own a house. And we live in DC.

We are planning to get married, we are just wondering if it is in our best interesto to move the process along and do it before Jan. 1?

Depends on your income level. A lot of times when a couple is married thier income together puts the tax amount up. But then they buy a house have some kids. Tax amount goes down. Call your local CPA they will usually answer your questions for no charge.

Probably help, but if you are getting into a rush marriage for tax purposes your 2008 taxes may need to be checked "single" again.
