A bill promoting the importance of Christmas is a blatant violation of the First Amendment -- the idiots that were behind this are just pandering to the religious right.

Last December I was in a local store, and a visibly shaken cashier told me that a customer had just screamed at her for saying, "happy holidays", which was probably company policy. The customer shrieked, "It's not 'happy holidays', it's 'Merry Christmas'! This is a Christian country and there are no other holidays that matter!" In my opinion, this irate customer did far more damage to the spirit of Christmas than the hapless cashier or her employers. You see, it's all about intolerance. The message of that statement is that only Christians are entitled to be happy this time of year and those of other faiths shouldn't be wished a happy Hanukkah or Kwanzaa. That, in my opinion, is a very un-Christian attitude. We should respect all of our fellow human beings, and shouldn't wish unhappiness on others just because their beliefs are slightly different. If you celebrate Christmas and refuse to recognize Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, you can take "happy holidays" to mean "Merry Christmas and happy new year". You don't have to carry your extremism to the point where you bite the head off of anyone who would like to wish you a little happiness.

Nobody is even thinking about doing away with Christmas. They're only trying to recognize America for the melting pot of cultures that it has been ever since it was founded. You can have a merry Christmas and your neighbors can have a happy Hanukkah and neither should interfere with the other in any way. I believe that if there's a war over Christmas, it's being waged by certain Christians against all other religions, and I don't believe that's what Jesus would want.

By the way, I'm 48 years old, and for as long as I can remember there have been greeting cards saying "Happy Holidays" or "Seasons Greetings". I don't recall anyone complaining about that until just the past few years, particularly since Bush took office. I think that speaks for itself.

Wait, Congress passed a resolution recognizing the importance of Christmas?

WTF? While I love Christmas as much as the next man, I don't think we elected those people just so they could sit on their lazy behinds and pass fluff legislation like this, whilst ignoring the real issues. And no, this whining over Happy Holidays is not an important issue.

Merry Christmas is out the door? You're a strange one.

Merry Christmas and Christ Holiday.

Happy Holidays is actually a better description of the winter holiday than merry christmas. Christ was not born on Dec. 25th.
The reason for the celebration of Christmas at the end of December has more to do with the Roman holiday of Saturnalia. Saturn is the sun god. His feast was celebrated at the winter Solstice for 4 days. Dec 21-25 to celebrate the lengthening of the days.

Christmas has to do with the return of the SUN more than the birth of the SON.

Dont give up hope. I'm reminded of a big school that had banned the use of God or anything that suggested it. On the graduation date, the Valedictorian got up to speak. He started to talk about the usual things and then all of a sudden he sneezed. The entire audience stood up and said in very loud voices-"God bless you." The point was made because it had obviously been rehearsed-by the whole school. The government can do everything it can to keep God out of our public speeches. They cant do away with the words on our currency. "In God We Trust".

Who said Merry Christmas is out the door? Everyone I know says it and some of them aren't even Christian. You need to stop being so paranoid.
