so i watched this thing on tv where through a telescope we, on earth, saw a star explode like millions of light years away, therefore we literally watched the past. it made me ask does time even exist? why is it to a dying man 14 seconds can seem like our standards of an "hour" and why to a little girl being at disneyworld half a day can seem like this same "hour"? If we look at a planet two light years away...we in 2007, currently view a planet in its 2005 state ... so basically we all have different perspectives, so does time exist or does it make no sense or is it simple relative?

my theory is that time is only 1 dimensional; it moves at a constant pace(regardless of how fast it 'seems' to go), in a single direction.

in a world where we experience everything as either 2 dimensional(like a tv screen) or 3 dimensions(like your own body), it is a alien experience to try & wrap your head around a 1 dimensional thing.

Time is real, the space-time continuum, that Einstein's theories point to, is a reality of this plane of existence.
Yes, time can also be relative. Though it is a subjective experience, it has no effect on the actual reality of time.
Actual time is absolute and remains constant. It has no feelings like a dying man or a child at Disneyworld.

On a further note, I disagree when people say that time is just man's way a measuring moments. Let's say man knew nothing about minutes, seconds, or hours. Time still would exist. It is a part of the natural universe. It is what keeps things from happening all at once. Whether we measure those things by a clock or not.
One person said to me, yeah but, even with no clocks man made time, by measuring of the rotation and orbit of the Earth around the sun. That argument still doesn't hold up. The rotation and orbit of Earth around the sun, takes up time itself to make it's rotation and orbit in space.
Think about a lizard in the desert on a moonless cloudy night
crawling from one rock to another. No sun, moon or stars.
How does it get from rock A to rock B. Time allows the lizard to crawl from rock A to rock B.
Don't get me wrong, I'm as philosophical as the next guy. The thought of the perception of time is interesting. But, is far as the laws of physics goes, time is real, just like space is real.
Not necessarily outer space, but just space in general.

Time is a man made measurement developed over a long period that has been designed to bring order to our lives.

It incorporates almost all aspects of our lives from the day we are born to the day we die. Including, seconds, latitude, distance our past and our future. So yes it does make sense to me when I look at the bigger picture like you are trying to do.

It exist simply in our minds and IS or IS NOT relative at the time depending on your point of view, to what it is being applied to.

'Does Time Make Sense?'
Shouldn't the question be "Do YOU Make Sense of Time! ! !"

As the 1st reply say's, time is one dimensional to him, yet I put it to you.
That time is merely, a perspective we appreciate in This Dimension.
Therefor, it may have an entirely different perspective in another 'Dimension' and who says that there is, or there is not another 'Dimension'.
I call on the experimentation in the world of 'Quantum Physics' to substantiate the "Dimensional Perspective" attitude.
